March: America's Teaching Zoo at Moorpark College is having our 20th Annual Spring Spectacular, our biggest event of the year! The event will be the last three weekends of March open from 10am to 5pm, see over 115 exotic animals up close and personal with 3 animal shows daily, behind the scenes tours, facepainting, kids games and vendors. Sundays: New Organist Mark Holmstrom plays at Camarillo UMC. Mark has joined Camarillo United Methodist as its new Church Organist. Mark played his first services in Camarillo Sunday, Feb. 21. He comes to the Camarillo church after 37 years as organist for First Lutheran Church of Northridge and is in his 17th year at California Lutheran University where he is the University Organist and Chapel Music Coordinator. Mark’s hobbies include attending classic rock-and-roll concerts and listening to top organists. The Camarillo United Methodist Church is located at 291 Anacapa Dr., north of Las Posas Rd. Wed, Mar 10: Family Country Fair presented by The Camarillo United Methodist Church. Free, old-fashioned fair from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in Brooks Hall. The fourth annual event is open to the public free of charge. There will be free hot dogs, popcorn, cotton candy, and lemonade. Everyone is welcome to this fun-filled family event and families with younger children – pre-school and elementary school - are especially invited. The evening will also feature carnival-type games, such as a cup-cake walk, bean-bag toss, penny toss, and more. Sun, Mar 14: CROP Hunger Walk includes eight Camarillo churches for the 27th annual event. The Walk will aid a wide variety of charities, both locally and nationally. This year’s CROP Walk will start in Constitution Park (next to Camarillo City Hall), at corner of Carmen and Ponderosa drive, with registration beginning at 12:45 p.m. The walk will start promptly at 1:15 p.m. and has two options – 5k (3.1 miles) or 10k (6.2 miles). Sponsor envelopes and information on the Walk are available at the nine sponsoring churches including: Camarillo United Methodist (this year’s sponsor), Mt. Cross Lutheran, Peace Lutheran, St. Columba’s Episcopal, Padre Serra Parish, St. Mary Magdalen Parish, Seventh-day Adventist, and Trinity Presbyterian. Fri, Apr 9: Application Deadline for new director of CUMC's Child Development Center (job/career/employment opportunity). The Camarillo United Methodist Church is seeking a new director for its well-known Child Development Center. Kathy Gebauer, who has been director of past 13 years, is retiring the end of July. The center, one of the few accredited by the National Association for the Education of the Young Child in Ventura County, has 150 students in a program for 2 ½ through 5 year olds. Deadline for submitting an application, resume, and letter of intent for the position is Friday, April 9.
